SELF-STYLED British "spy" Kenneth Littlejohn, 33, must be sent back to the Irish Republic to complete his 20-year prison sentence for armed robbery. Three High Court judges headed by the Lord Chief Justice Lord Widgery, decided this today when they rejected his claim that his trail in Eire in August,1973 was political.
Littlejohn was not in the Queen's Bench Divisional Court to hear his appeal for a writ of habeas corpus turned down. The judges refused him leave to appeal to the Lords.
Lord Widgery, sitting with Mr. Justice Ashworth and Mr. Justice May, said Littlejohns extradition was being sought to face a charge in the Republic of breaking out of Mountjoy Prison and to finish his sentence.
'Unique'
Lord Widgery said Littlejohn's extradition had been ordered by Birmingham's stipendiary magistrate on March 12. He added "This is an unusual case .It may well be a unique case"
It was the second time that Littlejohn had unsuccessfully fought extradition to the Irish Republic. The first occasion was in February,1973, when he was sent back to face trail for armed bank robbery. He had argued the rubbery was a political offence, which had been rejected.
