A MAN was last night in intensive care after being shot and left for dead on a remote mountain by suspected drug dealers. Liam McGinley, 28, was wounded in the side by a shotgun blast but managed to struggle to a nearby house. The victim - originally from Falcarragh, Donegal - has been living in Letterkenny for some time. He was dumped on the edge of the Derryveagh Mountains near the town of Churchill - 16km from his home - at about 2am yesterday.
He was later taken to Dublin's Mater Hospital, where he was last night said to be "stable". There was speculation in Letterkenny that Mr McGinley was attacked by a drugs gang. Local Sinn Fein Cllr Dessie McMonagle said: "If that's what people are saying it'd very much be the first drug-related shooting in Donegal." Detectives are waiting to interview the victim.
